Over 20 years, the Magazine is still the Franchise.

TheHomeMag began franchising our magazine business four years after the launch of the first Issue. Our first official franchise location was the Las Vegas magazine, signed in February 2007 and mailed four months later. Our model today is a bit more sophisticated than it was in early 2007, but the core remains the same: owner-operated magazine Publishers focused on creating more leads and finding more customers for local home improvement providers.

TheHomeMag franchise model is not complicated, but it has taken years to hone. No equipment, no lengthy prime real estate leases or detailed buildout. We have the program, the supplier partners, the vast experience, a collaborative network, and the research to guide you to own and operate your local edition of TheHomeMag. The magazine is the franchise, and our model allows TheHomeMag to leverage the collective buying and client-intelligence efficiencies to bring those systems and savings direct to each franchise owner.

Frequently Asked Questions

TheHomeMag began franchising our magazine business four years after the launch of the first Issue. Our first official franchise location was the Las Vegas magazine, signed in February 2007 and mailed four months later. What is the cost to become a franchisee?

The amount of capital we require ranges from $200,000 to $350,000, depending on the market selected. The majority of this capital is in place for you as capital reserve as you launch and become profitable.

What is the Franchise Fee and the Royalty percentage?

The IFF (Initial Franchise Fee) ranges from $30,000 for a hometown market, $60,000 for a Standard Market, and $100,000 for a Double Market. The Royalty is a flat 6.5% of gross revenue every Issue you publish.

How long does it take to get up and running?

From your initial inquiry, the timing is roughly 5 months before your first magazine lands in the mailbox. Timing depends on our mutual discovery comfort, and seasonal timing.

Do I need experience?

In business, ideally. It does help speed up the growth curve if you have print advertising or home improvement business experience, particularly in the market you select.

How much can I expect to make as a franchise owner?

That’s too broad a question to answer and the variables are many. Your ability to become profitable is directly a factor of adding regular recurring advertising clients to your base. If we get to that point, we will share models to help you understand your exposure well before you would commit to becoming a franchisee.

Am I able to do this part-time?

The short answer is no. We require our magazine owners to commit to this full-time with both feet in the boat. This requires the leader with skin in the game to lead the business and to pull from the front 24/7. This is not a passive income model, but rather a hands-on, lead-by-example and commitment business.

What’s the process?

Once we connect and mutually feel there may be a fit, you will complete a Request for Franchise Consideration – a short non-committal document to tell us about you. After the vetting, you may move on to the Franchise Disclosure Document phase – your time to review our current 2021 FDD, contact our franchise operators, and do your full due diligence to determine if this business and model are for you. If you continue to be interested, we discuss timing and market specifics and determine when you would want to launch. The final step is to execute the Franchise Agreement. Once that’s complete, its schedule, training, and launch time.
